Statement
Like the brief, expectant encounter of an opened bloom giving
way to the certainty of dry and friable petals, so too do
we inevitably give way to our own transience of being. My
work is a visual response to my own search for a sympathetic
connection to the physicality of being and the intuition of
spirituality.
Approached as meditations on the construct of humanness, my
work delves into corporeal identity and instinctive desire.
Through repetition and pattern I create an ordered logic at
odds with the seemingly haphazard sensibility of nature. Of
particular interest to me is the validity of randomness and
chance. I search for evidence of the existence of an underlying
order and cool logic beyond our comprehension or control.
The limitless, relentless onslaught of time and transformational
effects of nature are most readily experienced through the
botanical world, where continuous cycles of births and deaths
serve to condense a lifetime into a mere meteorological season.
I utilize this self-contained cosm of plants as a paradigm
onto which I project states of illness and virility, anomaly
and normalcy.
